Post-Spring Break

Unfortunately, spring break is over and its back to 8 a.m. classes and studying hard. I had a great time this past week being back at home. I hung out with lots of friends from my home town and got to see my boyfriend much more than usual. I danced in a dance competition Saturday in Durham and our group won a platinum metal for our dance. We also won several awards for it, so that was lots of fun. But the highlight of my spring break was going to Onslow Hospital to observe a CRNA in surgery. A CRNA is a certified registered nurse anesthetist and in NC they are allowed to administer drugs and be in total control of the patients' anesthesia during the operation. I had to be at the hospital at 7:00 thursday morning to change into scrubs and be in the operating room by 7:30 when they started. I watched three different surgeries and stood with the CRNA the whole time to watch what they were doing. He explained everything he used and why he used it, which was really cool. I learned so much about surgery and anesthesia. Then I went on a tour of the hospital and the Cath Lab. That was really neat but my favorite was the surgery. Hopefully, in a few years I will be a CRNA.
